Old beads – New look
This bracelet is handmade by skilled craftswomen in Nepal. It is made with repurposed glass beads from necklaces originally worn by women of the Bonda tribe in Odisha, India. They traditionally wear dozens of strings of glass beads as their main garment. The ancient glass beads have been worn for decades by Bonda women. The Bonda are an indigenous tribe that still lives in the hills of Odisha today. Bonda women wear only a loincloth; their upper body and head are covered with strings of colorful beads.
In Nepal, the old glass beads from these strings are given a new life as bracelets. The beads are strung on new cotton threads. Thanks to the knotted sliding clasp, the bracelet fits almost any wrist. The size is adjustable from 16 to 22 cm.
